Scotland’s most expensive flat, which comes with a butler and a chef, has been put up for sale.

The two-bedroom property in St Andrews overlooks the historic Old Course, and will set its future owner back £2.3m – the highest price per square foot of any residential property in Scotland currently on the market.

Hamilton Grand is owned by the same American company that owns the nearby Old Course Hotel, with those living in the building given access to several perks sourced from the hotel, including a 24-hour butler service, private chefs, and housekeeping.

Two of the windows have French doors to stone balconies with cast iron handrails.

The entrance to the apartment leads into the living room and kitchen, with a Georgian-style wooden fireplace, a fixed TV, a dresser unit with a wine fridge and a fitted cupboard.

Built in 1895, the building itself has a fascinating backstory. It was formerly The Grand Hotel which was frequented by many celebrities, including King Edward VIII, Mary Astor, Rudyard Kipling, and Bing Crosby.

It was the first building in Scotland to have an elevator and hot and cold water running in every bathroom, setting the benchmark for the ultimate in luxurious hospitality.

Built of distinctive red sandstone, The Grand Hotel created something of a sensation at the time, bringing a great splash of colour to The Auld Grey Toon.

During the Second World War, the Air Ministry requisitioned the building, transforming it into training headquarters for the Royal Air Force.

No 16 Hamilton Grand, on 21 Golf Place, is currently under offer by Savills.
