An app created by three Aberdeen-based entrepreneurs is helping newcomers settle into life in the Granite City.
Settlrz was designed to help those who find it a daunting prospect moving to the UK.
The new app helps newcomers find everything they need in one place, which includes information about council tax, nurseries and local services.
It was founded by three entrepreneurs who know first-hand the obstacles faced by many moving to a new country.
Deena Tissera came to the UK 12 years ago and knows how hard it is being a newcomer.
She has since become a Labour councillor, sitting on the city’s administration.
She said: “I think every migrant who is in this country has gone through the same journey of trying to figure out their way around and it is a no-brainer to create this platform.
“It’s an empowering step for people to have resources and information to guide their journey.”
Co-founder Naveen Reddy made sure the app included all the necessary information. He said: “There is a list of things every immigrant has to do. This app will serve as a single stop solution for newcomers to be guided in the right direction.”
The app allows people to start off by selecting their visa status and also includes numerous options – including how to find a GP practice, how to apply for a driving licence, and how to find the nearest supermarket.
Settlrz has proved particularly popular with international students.
Turan, who came from India to study in Aberdeen, said: “When you first move to a new country people are usually more stressed. When I came here at 17 it could be really stressful. Having been so far away from family an app like this can really help.”
The Settlrz app is available in 14 languages.
