Aberdeen squad joins forces with band for charity song

An indie rock band from Aberdeen have recorded an uplifting lockdown song to raise funds in the city’s fight against coronavirus.

Eskimo Blonde have penned ‘Hang On’ and are donating all cash generated by downloads to Aberdeen Football Club’s community trust and the work it’s doing in the community.

Club heroes Duncan Shearer, Arild Stavrum and Neil Simpson are among some familiar faces, who feature in the video alongside current first team players and chairman Dave Cormack.

The song tells the story of offering support and staying safe during the pandemic, while the footage shows the trust’s volunteers delivering food packages to those in need.

Band frontman Mike Loszak wrote the song after speaking to a friend about the strange times people are living in and, inspired by the work of the club and community trust, wanted to play his part through the proceeds.

Speaking about the track, Mike said: “I had in mind some of the big American anthems, something that maybe Bruce Springsteen might write in the midst of a crisis.

“I also thought about people being scared to leave home and how isolated and alone they may feel and it just flowed from there.”

Liz Bowie, chief executive of Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust, said: “This is a fantastic gesture by a band whose roots are firmly planted in Aberdeen. Mike’s lyrics are particularly pertinent to our campaign.

“He sings ‘When you’re down on your luck and you’re all out of trust well I got you. Pick up the phone, you’re never alone, I got you.’

“This resonates with our efforts to check-in on our fans through phone calls and to help those in need through the deliveries of food and essentials.”
