A large blaze at a recycling facility in Aberdeen is being probed by fire investigators.
The Suez plant at Altens burst into flames twice in the space of a few hours on July 8 and July 9 – with crews forced to return to the scene after midnight after reports the fire had become “reignited”.
Over 20 crews from across the North East were scrambled to help extinguish the blaze, with some remaining on the scene for almost 120 hours to make the area safe.
Firefighters used so much water that some households in the Cove Bay area lost part of their water supply for a short period of time during the operation.
It has now emerged the cause of the fire is under investigation by officers from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), supported by Police Scotland.
No one is understood to have been injured as a result of the incident.
Waste was being transferred more than 300 miles from Aberdeen to Hartlepool in the North East of England to be disposed, with some staff redeployed.
Others were put on paid leave while Suez count the cost of the destruction.
Suez has been contacted for comment.
