Aberdeen teacher who messaged female pupil 'asking to go for a drink' faces disciplinary hearing

An Aberdeen teacher is facing disciplinary action after he messaged several students and even asked one out for a drink.

The case is due to be heard by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS); however, due to the involvement of school pupils, anonymity has been granted.

The teacher was employed at an Aberdeen school between 2021 and 2023, during which the allegations against him were made.

According to the case, the teacher suggested meeting Pupil A outside of school between October 2021 and September 2022.

The teacher sent the female student messages calling her beautiful and funny, referencing photos she had posted to social media.

He also video-called the student and suggested they meet for a drink.

Between January 2022 and April 2023, the teacher sent messages to Pupil B that were unrelated to school which included praise and encouragement.

He also sent messages at the weekends and during school holidays, referenced their appearance, made jokes and sought to arrange one-to-one meetings with Pupil B outside school.

Finally, between November 2022 and April 2023, the teacher sent messages to Pupil C, outside of school hours, made jokes and continued to message the pupil when they failed to respond.

The teacher also bought Pupil C chocolate, engaged in personal conversations with her and asked about what she was doing and when her father was leaving for holiday.

It was heard that the teacher’s behaviour made all three pupils feel uncomfortable.

The GTC panel has scheduled several days to fully hear the facts of the case, before making their decision on if the teacher should be barred from the profession.
