A major train line has been closed and a number of services cancelled after a vehicle struck a bridge in Aberdeenshire.
ScotRail confirmed the Aberdeen to Inverness line was closed in both directions after the vehicle struck a bridge at Inverurie after 3.45pm on Monday.
National Rail said disruption is expected until 8pm with engineers on site to assess the damage to the structure.
Services from Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen and Inverness, and also between Montrose and Aberdeen and Inverurie are among journeys affected.
The operator said ticket acceptance is in place on Stagecoach North buses between Aberdeen and Inverness.
ScotRail posted on X: “Due to a vehicle striking a bridge at Inverurie, Network Rail have had to close the Aberdeen – Inverness Line in both directions in that area until engineers can carry out an assessment.”
Network Rail added: “Following a vehicle striking a bridge at Inverurie, we’ve had to close the Aberdeen – Inverness line in both directions there, until our engineers can assess the damage to the structure.”
ScotRail said it requested two buses for Insch and two for Inverurie but “nothing has been secured yet”.
National Rail said in a statement: “Urgent repairs to a bridge between Inverurie and Insch means all lines are closed.
“As a result of this, trains between Aberdeen and Inverness may be cancelled or revised.”
