University of AberdeenThe University of Aberdeen has been left “shocked” after a “talented colleague” was found dead in an Aberdeenshire home.
Emergency services were called to a house on Blench Drive in Ellon on Monday, August 31.
Officers were responding to reports for a concern for person. A 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
She has since been named locally as Donna Henderson, who worked at the University of Aberdeen’s Rowett Institute for more than three decades.
Ms Henderson worked in the analytical chemistry section as a technician.
SuppliedDirector of the Rowett Institute, Professor Jules Griffin, described her “a valued and talented colleague and friend”.
She said: “Everyone is shocked and saddened at Donna’s passing.
“She joined the Rowett as a school leaver 34 years ago and was a valued and talented colleague and friend.
“Our thoughts go out to all her family and friends at this very difficult time.”
The death is being treated as unexplained. An investigation into the incident is ongoing
A police spokesperson said: “On Monday, August 31, 2026, we were called to a report of concern for a woman in a property on Blench Drive, Ellon.
“The 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are continuing and the death is being treated as unexplained.”
