Volunteers who look after a remembrance garden in Brechin say they are “very disappointed” after war memorial benches were vandalised.
The ornate steel seats were targeted sometime between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning last week.
Ceramic poppies and a cross were bent or snapped off. It is not known who is responsible.
The cost of the damage is not known, but it’s hoped the benches can be repaired.
They were unveiled eight years ago to commemorate those from the area who served and died at war, including David Cowie, a soldier who fought in World War One but died on his return home in 1919 from pneumonia.
The bench was placed on the site where he used to live, a cottage with his wife Alice and daughter Jessie, before the start of the war.

Jess Christie, from the Brechin Community garden, called the vandalism of his memorial “very disappointing”.
“So it’s very disappointing, because when we took over this area, we made it into a memorial garden, purely because we wanted a reason for doing it.
“There actually was a lad called Davie Cowie who was a soldier in the First World War, and his cottage had been where the bench is.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.10pm on Friday, September 17, 2025, we received a report of a vandalism to a bench in Brechin.
“If anyone knows who was responsible, please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1728 of 17 October 2025.”
