A man “with a weapon” has been been arrested after armed police locked down a street in Fife.
Emergency services were called to Glendevon Road in Glenrothes on Wednesday morning.
Due to the nature of the incident armed police also attended and the street was locked down.
Police asked staff at the nearby Pitteuchar East Primary School and Nursery to take pupils inside “as quickly as possible”.
Headteacher Jennifer Knussen confirmed: “There was a police incident in nearby streets this morning.
“We were asked by police to get all children into school and nursery as quickly as possible which we did.
“We have now been advised that the incident is over and please be assured that children are safe and well.”
The force confirmed there was no wider threat to the public and a 24-year-old has been arrested in connection.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We are aware an incident in Glendevon Road in Glenrothes this morning will have been concerning for members of the public.
“A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the possession of an offensive weapon
“Due to the nature of the incident, armed officers were in attendance.
“There was no threat to the wider public.”
