A Dundee couple had to run for their lives when a nearby burn burst into their home as Storm Babet battered Scotland.
Flood water swept through Eilidh Guthrie’s home, as well as several others, in Benvie just a few miles west of Dundee.
During the worst of the heavy rainfall parts of a road that run above the burn were ripped away.
When she returned to the cottage, Ms Guthrie found that her home had been torn apart with thick mud coating the entire premises.
Ms Guthrie recounted the moment that her home was flooded saying: “The door burst open and honestly so quickly the water was up at my waist. The sofa was floating.
“I had to barge past everything to get to my bedroom to grab my cat.
“There was actually a wheelie bin that was blocking me in at my door. So, I had to kind of barge passed that and then get out and get to my partner.
“The only thing I was thinking about was to get my cat out and make sure my partner was okay.”
Ms Guthrie, who rents the flat with her partner, revealed they have no contents insurance so will “have to start from scratch”.
As for the aftermath of the event Ms Guthrie said there aren’t “any words” for how she feels.
“It’s not really until it’s been a few days, it’s actually started to sink in what’s happened and coming back here, it sort of feels like grief a little bit.
“It’s sort of ebbing and flowing with it hitting you, realising what’s happened, being thankful that we’re okay, but then still realising what we’ve lost as well.”
