Body recovered from river formally identified as woman swept away during flood

A body recovered from the River Don has been formally identified as Hazel Nairn who was swept away during severe flooding in Aberdeenshire in 2022.

The 71-year-old disappeared at the River Don near Monymusk in November 2022 while she was out with her dog.

The body of her pet was later found near the river but extensive searches failed to locate her.

Police said they had recovered human remains from the River Don near Kemnay, Inverurie, at around 1.20pm on May 7, 2024.

They have now said the remains have been formally identified as the missing woman and her family have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
