A boy has been taken to hospital after plunging 30ft onto rocks near an Aberdeenshire lighthouse.
A multi-agency operation was launched to rescue the child at Boddam Lighthouse near Peterhead after the alarm was raised on Wednesday afternoon.
HM Coastguard rope rescue teams from Cruden Bay, Peterhead and Banff were mobilised to the scene alongside the service’s rescue helicopter from Inverness.
An ambulance was sent as Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance mobilised a land crew of a paramedic and doctor to the beauty spot.
RNLI Peterhead Lifeboat Station also provided assistance and remained on scene as safety cover for the helicopter operations.
The boy was treated for multiple injuries on the rocks before he was airlifted to a safe area. He was then taken by ambulance to hospital.
His condition is currently unknown.
A spokesperson from HM Coastguard – Aberdeen City & Shire said: “The coastline can have many hidden dangers, and a simple slip off a path can result in a nasty accident.
“Please stay alert whilst enjoying the coastline, and if you do get into difficulty remember to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
