One of Scotland’s most historic castles is set to open its doors to visitors “brave” enough to take a Halloween tour from Friday.
Glamis Castle in Angus is said to be home to at least nine ghosts which haunt the castle’s walls and from October 28 until October 31, guests will be led through the building’s grand rooms by an expert tour guide.
The tales of the Grey Lady and Tongueless Woman will be told as visitors make their way through the castle’s many rooms including the Drawing Room, Billiard Room and the Chapel, which will feature atmospheric lighting, sound effects and ghostly figures waiting in the shadows.
While scares during Ghosts of Glamis tour are expected, the castle will welcome people of all ages.
Steven Cumming, general manager at Glamis Castle, said: “As one of Scotland’s oldest castles, the dramatic stories of the Ghosts of Glamis are legendary. It’s the ideal place for those looking to celebrate Halloween this year.
“The combination of the spooky stories, told brilliantly by our talented tour guides, and incredible effects as brave visitors walk through the castle will thrill and chill in equal measure.”
In its 650-year history the castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, welcomed the likes of famous visitors from Mary, Queen of Scots to William Gladstone, and was the inspiration for William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
The Ghosts of Glamis tour will run in the evenings from 5pm until 9pm on Friday October 28 until Sunday October 30, and 5pm until 10pm on Monday October 31.
Tickets are £15 per adult, £10 per child (between five and 17 years) and £10 for concessions. Car parking is included in the price of the tickets.
