Police attempted to stop a car which flipped onto its roof on a busy street in Aberdeen, leaving two people in hospital with serious injuries.
Officers pursued the vehicle on Crown Street and tried to bring the chase to halt before the car was involved in a collision.
The incident has since been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC), Police Scotland confirmed.
A 35-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were taken to hospital following the crash, where they remain in a stable condition.
The man was later arrested.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 1.40am on Tuesday, October 11, a single car crash occurred on Crown Street, Aberdeen.
“A 35-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were taken to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where they remain in a stable condition.
“The man has also been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
They added: “Officers attempted to stop the car prior to the crash and Police Scotland has therefore referred the matter to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC), as is standard procedure.”
PIRC has been contacted for comment.
