A car flipped over on a snowy Aberdeenshire road on New Year’s Day, as weather warnings came into force.
The A96 near Huntly was shut for a short while after the incident, just after 9am on Thursday, as emergency services attended.
Police Scotland has been approached for comment and it’s currently unknown if any injuries were reported.
Travel advisories have been issued ahead of an amber weather alert for snow across the north and northeast of Scotland, with a yellow warning for snow and ice already in place.
Heavy snow showers could bring disruption in parts of the Highlands and north-east Scotland between midday on Friday and midday on Saturday.
It warns accumulations of 10-20cm of snow are likely at low levels, with 30-40cm possible on high ground, while winds could lead to temporary blizzard conditions.
Police Scotland say people should consider changing their plans, or if travel really is necessary, to plan ahead and take care.
Chief superintendent Scott McCarren, Police Scotland’s head of road policing, said: “Our advice is to plan ahead and consider if your journey is really necessary during the bad weather or if it can be delayed until conditions improve.
“If you need to travel, please drive to the conditions, be prepared for delays and allow extra time for your journey. Please don’t drive through road closures, the decision to close roads is not taken lightly and is done for public safety.”
The force has issued general advice for road users:
- Plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel
- All road users should consider if they really need to travel during adverse weather.
- Consider delaying travel until conditions improve
- If you are travelling on the roads, prepare yourself and your vehicle for the conditions
- Ensure your mobile phone is charged and plan your journey, including an alternative route
- Have sufficient fuel, warm clothing, food and water in case you’re delayed
- Do not ignore road closure signs – they are for your safety
