Police have launched a bid to find the occupants of a car which smashed through two lampposts on a major road in Dundee.

Officers believe the driver and passengers fled the scene after the blue vehicle felled the lights on Lochee Road near the junction with Polepark Road at 5.25pm on Friday evening.

The street was shut for several hours while investigators carried out an initial probe and road operatives cleared the scene of debris.

An “extensive” effort to trace those responsible is now under way.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.25pm on Friday July 7, police received a report of a road crash involving a car on Lochee Road, Dundee.

“The vehicle hit two lamp posts. The occupants of the car ran off from the vehicle and extensive enquiries are under way to locate them.”
