A casualty has been rescued from a cliff following a major multi-agency operation in Arbroath.

Lifeboat volunteers and the Coastguard were called to an area of cliffs known as Seaman’s Grave on Monday around 10.30pm.

RNLI Arbroath’s Atlantic 85 and D-class lifeboats were sent to the scene with crews facing difficult conditions.

Alongside colleagues from Scottish Ambulance’s SORT team and the Coastguard, rescuers spent hours working to save the casualty.

RNLI crew assisted in administering on scene care before an extraction took place at around 2am by HM Coastguard’s Rescue 151 helicopter from Inverness.

The casualty was then airlifted to hospital.

Arbroath’s lifeboat operations manager, Ron Churchill, said “Our crew worked alongside colleagues from the other emergency services to manage a challenging situation that resulted in the successful extraction of a casualty.

“We would like to express our thanks to all those involved.”
