A charity-run café in Fife is serving up meals for just £1 to help those struggling with the cost of living.
The Village Café in Ceres is staffed by young adults with additional support needs and run by the charity Option in Life.
Owners hope cutting prices will encourage more people to drop in as costs continue to soar.
Charity programme co-ordinator Rob Burns told STV News: “A lot of people are too embarrassed to say that they can’t afford to come.
“They’ve been avoiding coming in and we’ve had to reach out to a lot of our local customers and ask them why they’re not visiting – and they’ve said it’s just a luxury that they can’t afford anymore.
“They won’t say it when they’re in the café because people have too much pride, but we’ve realised that it’s an issue and this can help people come back.
“Our services users weren’t getting as much experience because it was getting quieter.
“So we thought we would make a reduced menu to support people through the cost-of-living crisis.”
Customer Karen Mason has chosen to keep her home warm to stop her son Ewan getting sick, meaning a lunch out of the house is now a luxury.
Karen said: “Everything’s changed on a dime, the whole going out and enjoying yourself is so much more expensive now that it was even six months ago.
“You’re not rich when you’re on benefits. We couldn’t go out and have lunch any more. But coming here it’s not a problem.”
