Council-funded sporting body Sport Aberdeen is under investigation by a charity watchdog, it has emerged.
Since its establishment in 2010, Sport Aberdeen has managed 34 venues and provided various physical activities throughout the north-east on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
In March of this year, the local authority announced the sporting body would receive £3.8m of investment along with a further £600,000 for Aberdeen Sports Village as part of its 2026/27 budget.
However it has now emerged the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) has opened a formal inquiry into the business’s operations after it was made aware of “concerns”
A spokesperson for OSCR said: “Following assessment of concerns received about Sport Aberdeen, we have opened an inquiry into the charity.
“In line with our published policies, we are unable to provide further comment at this time.”
Aberdeen City Council told STV News they will not be providing a comment regarding the investigation.
Sport Aberdeen has been contacted for comment.
