A chicken factory that was forced to close last year due to coronavirus has been linked to a further outbreak.
NHS Tayside said 30 new cases of Covid-19 were connected to the 2 Sisters processing plant in Coupar Angus, Perthshire.
The plant was closed last August and all workers were told to self-isolate following an outbreak that infected almost 200 staff members and community contacts.
On Wednesday, the health board said an Incident Management Team (IMT) was monitoring the situation and the plant will remain open in the meantime.
Dr Emma Fletcher, director of public health, said: “Thirty cases of Covid-19 connected to the 2 Sisters food processing plant have now been identified.
“The factory is working closely with NHS Tayside’s public health team and Food Standards Scotland and all arrangements for contact tracing and self-isolation are in place.
“Staff are being given appropriate advice and additional support from their relevant local authority if needed.
“The multi-agency Incident Management Team continues to keep the situation under close review and the factory remains open.”
A further update is expected on Monday, January 11.
