A photographer caught the moment a cormorant wrestled with a huge fish – before swallowing it whole.
Robert Dyke, 63, pictured the bird fishing on the River Tay as it caught a massive grayling.
The snapper, from Perthshire, watched the cormorant as it worked the water before surfacing with the fish.
It took three attempts to throw the fish up in the air but then swallowed it down head first.
Mr Dyke said cormorant are expert fishers that can dive down 150ft and stay under water for about 15 minutes.
He said: “The photos are of a cormorant wrestling with and eating a large grayling it caught on the Tay.
“I watched the cormorant for ten to 15 minutes as it worked the water before catching the fish and I couldn’t believe my eyes when it surfaced with a huge grayling.
“This is the largest fish I have seen a cormorant take out of the water.
“The bird took about three attempts to throw up the fish and swallow it down head first.
“I was absolutely thrilled with the images I managed to capture it.”
