Council sets deadline for RAAC-affected residents to accept enhanced pay offer

The ten remaining homeowners could see the enhanced payment for their home withdrawn

Aberdeen councillors have voted to stick to the end-of-month deadline for RAAC residents to accept an enhanced pay offer for their homes.

Aberdeen City Council has spent months negotiating with residents as part of a buy-back scheme, with all RAAC-affected properties earmarked for demolition.

However, while all the council-owned properties have been vacated, a handful of private homeowners remain.

At a full council meeting on Wednesday, a vote was held to keep the current deadline – August 30 – for the ten private homeowners to accept the offer or have the offer withdrawn.

Of the 138 private homeowners, 128 have accepted the council’s offer to purchase their homes, clearing the way for demolition, which has already started in some areas of Balnagask.

Councillors had the option to either stick to the deadline or to extend it once again.

The first deadline for homeowners to accept the council’s offer was December 2025, which was then extended to March this year.

Councillors narrowly voted to keep the deadline, under which the enhanced offers would be withdrawn if not accepted by the remaining residents.

Plans were also discussed about what the future of Balnagask could look like once all the RAAC properties have been demolished.

Miranda Radley, convener of Housing, Communities and Public Protection Committee, said: “We have made significant progress over the past year, and I would like to thank homeowners for their continued engagement throughout a very difficult and challenging time.

“We will continue to work with residents and stakeholders as plans develop and through our future engagement, help to create a safe, sustainable and thriving community in the years ahead.”

The masterplan will include wider community engagement and involvement, with the final plans being taken forward in Summer 2027.
