Council workers in Aberdeen have been threatened for removing flags while putting up Christmas lights.
Aberdeen City Council said staff were subjected to verbal threats on Provost Watt Drive while attempting to install lights.
It comes after Saltires were put up across the country earlier this year, with some associated with anti-immigration campaign groups.
The action coincided with demonstrations against housing asylum seekers in hotels, with several protests having taken place in Aberdeen.
Aberdeenshire and Falkirk councils also said workers had faced abuse while attempting to detach flags from street lights earlier this year.
Aberdeen City Council said it is “unacceptable” that staff have faced abuse, and that it raises serious concerns for the safety of its workers.
The incidents of abuse have been reported to Police Scotland.
A spokesperson added: “We want to make it clear that the installation of festive lights is authorised and approved by the council.
“Any items, including flags, attached to lighting columns must be removed to allow safe installation.
“Threatening behaviour towards workers will not be tolerated.
“Such incidents have been reported to Police Scotland, and we will continue to work closely with them to ensure the safety of our staff.”
