A Fife based Highland Games which dates back to the 1880s has been disbanded due to a lack of volunteers.
The Cupar Highland Games, which were first launched in 1886, had become part of the region’s summer circuit after restarting in 1979.
Organisers had put out an appeal almost a year ago to find new volunteers for summer 2024, but after they were “unable to find anyone” the games will be disbanded.
The news follows the previous cancellation of the games in 2022.
Athletes at previous incarnations of the games who went on to achieve success include gold medal winners Liz McColgan and Yvonne Murray.
A statement from Cupar Highland Games read: “The committee of Cupar Highland Games regret to inform you that the games are now disbanded.
“Unfortunately we have been unable to find anyone to take on the games and therefore we have taken the decision to close the games.
“We would like to thank all attendees, suppliers and supporters for their support over the last few years.”
