Cycling and walking path closed for six months due to 'dangerous' trees

A popular path for cyclists and walkers in Aberdeen is to be closed for six months due to “dangerous trees” in the woodland area.

Part of the Deeside Way, a 41-mile stretch that follows the former railway line, will be closed until the end of November when work to fell trees is expected to be completed.

The works will take place in the section from Pittengullies Brae to Culter Station and at ‘Lovers Walk’ where the trees will be replaced by a native shrub species to hold the bank together.

Aberdeen City Council said the work was brought forward for safety reasons after two trees on the path recently came down – one in high winds.

Local diversions will be signposted, said the council.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “The Deeside Way is a very popular walking and cycling route however the safety of people using it is a priority so these dangerous trees must be felled.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.”
