The death of a woman who was found in a river in Aberdeen on Monday is being treated as “unexplained”.

Emergency services were called to the Papermill Avenue area after the discovery of a body in the River Don at around 2.40pm

The 60-year-old woman’s body was recovered, and her family has been informed, Police Scotland said.

Detectives are treating the death as unexplained, but it is not believed to be suspicious. An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A report is due to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.40pm on Monday, December 8, 2025, the body of a 60-year-old woman was discovered in water in the Papermill Avenue area of Aberdeen.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious. Her family is aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
