A fire that took hold of an abandoned paper mill in Aberdeen was caused by a deliberate van fire, police have said.
Emergency services were called to the derelict Stoneywood Mill in Bucksburn around 5.20pm on Sunday following reports of a well-developed fire.
Four fire engines and a high-reach vehicle were sent to the scene of the well-developed fire.
Investigations into the incident have revealed that a white van parked on the grounds was deliberately set on fire before the fire then spread to the building.
Fire crews remained at the scene of the incident into Monday morning after reports of smouldering. The fire has now been extinguished.
The paper mill has been disused since it went into administration in September 2022 and was previously damaged by a fire in 2024.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who were in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
Detective sergeant Stuart Hache said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think back and consider if they noticed anything suspicious, any small detail could prove significant. I would also ask motorists with dash cam equipment to check their footage for any images which could assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2337 of Sunday, March 29, 2026 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where you can give your information anonymously.
