Celtic’s largest shareholder Dermot Desmond has been ‘targeted with tennis balls’ on a golf course in St Andrews.
On Saturday, the Irish businessman was taking part in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when the incident took place around 2pm.
Yellow tennis balls featuring Desmond’s face scored out were thrown onto the green by protesters.
Celtic Fans Collective said that the protest was designed to “send a message” to the majority shareholder.
In a post on X, Celtic Fans Collection said: “Dermot Desmond has essentially been allowed to run Celtic Football Club whilst using his wealth to hide from supporters and accountability. Fans took the chance today to send a message that this arrangement cannot continue.”
Desmond has come under fire from some fans over the club’s Champions League exit and concerns over transfer signings.
Police said they were aware that tennis balls had been thrown on the course, but there had been no injuries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Saturday, 3 October, 2026, we were aware of tennis balls being thrown on the golf course in St Andrews. There were no reports of injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
