A man is accused of killing a teacher in a road crash after a trailer allegedly came off his vehicle.

Raymond Lamb is charged with causing the death of Yvonne Lumsden, 35, by driving dangerously on the A948 near Ellon, Aberdeenshire, on July 12, 2019.

The 30-year-old is said to have been behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up which was towing a trailer.

Prosecutors claim he was going at “excessive speed”.

It is alleged the trailer had a “defective” braking system and that it had not been secured properly to the vehicle.

The charge states the trailer then detached from the Mitsubishi before hitting a Volswagen Polo driven by mum-of-two Ms Lumsden.

Ms Lumsden, of New Deer, Aberdeenshire, was so badly hurt she later died in hospital.

A child in her vehicle is also said to have been seriously injured.

Lamb, of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, faces a further three charges under the Road Traffic Act.

Defence lawyer David Moggach pleaded not guilty on his behalf during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.

He said: “Put shortly, we are ready to proceed to trial, but one cannot be fixed at present.”

Lady Stacey instead adjourned until a further hearing in September.
