A man was detected to be driving at speeds of up to 114mph on the A96 in Aberdeenshire.
He was stopped near Keith by officers from the Road Policing division carrying out patrols, at around 7pm on Sunday, February 26.
The 21-year-old, who was driving a Volkswagen Golf, has been charged in connection and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Inspector Scott Deans said: “The dangers of speeding are well known and it is disappointing to see another driver grossly in excess of the speed limit, which in this case was 40mph through temporary road works.
“It is never appropriate or acceptable to drive at such high speeds and we will continue to carry out patrols in order to improve driver behaviour.”
It comes after multiple serious crashes on the A96 over the past two months.
On January 12, a lorry was involved in a crash with three cars on the motorway near Colpy at Insch.
A 74-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman from one of the cars were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
On January 25, two people were taken to hospital after a four-car crash closed the A96 in both directions.
A 31-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital after being hit by a HGV on the motorway on February 14.
Medical staff confirmed his injuries were not life threatening, and the A96 was closed in both directions in Culloden for several hours.
