A Dundee anti-immigration group has been accused of causing “unnecessary concern and distress” as they continue to protest outside a former hotel which now operates as an aparthotel.
The group, Dundee Patriots, has consistently organised demonstrations outside the Craigtay Hotel on Broughty Ferry Road, claiming the site houses asylum seekers. The latest action took place on Monday.
The Home Office is responsible for housing asylum seekers and has contracted several private providers.
In 2025, Mears Group, Serco and Clearsprings Ready Homes were tasked with procuring and managing asylum accommodation.
The Craigtay Hotel site is operated by Access Accommodation and is now made up of 25 studio rooms, which can be booked for a minimum of 30 days.
According to their website, the location offers accommodation to those “training or studying in the city on a short-term basis or leisure traveller looking for a home from home”.
The company confirmed to STV News that those living at the aparthotel are lawful occupants and that wrongful information is causing them “distress”.
The Home Office confirmed that there are no asylum seekers housed at the hotel on Broughty Ferry Road.
A spokesperson for Access Accommodation said: “The misinformation circulating online has already caused unnecessary concern and distress to occupants who have no connection to the allegations being shared.
“We are liaising with Police Scotland regarding protest activity and online misinformation, and appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safety of residents, staff, and the wider community.”
Dundee Patriots has also claimed that asylum seekers are residing at a Sunrise Short Lets operated location on Dundee’s Main Street.
A post on the Facebook page stated: “New place sniffed them out.”
Sunrise Short Lets runs serviced apartments across Dundee, Edinburgh, Ayr, Glasgow and Perth, tailored for tradespeople, tourists, professionals, families and groups.
A spokesperson from Sunrise Short Lets said: “I would like to clarify that there are zero migrants staying at this location and we have zero migrants staying in any of our locations.
“The people staying there are tradesmen. To clarify, we have zero migrants.”
