Discovery Point is set to enhance its tourist offering as the latest proposals in an ambitious transformation plan are approved.

The Dundee Heritage Trust, the body that runs the attraction, lodged an application in October seeking permission for a number of upgrades at the venue.

It forms part of a wider £12m proposal to enhance the visitor experience.

This has already seen the installation of a dome viewing gallery which opened in 2022.

The latest plans include the creation of a permanent gallery space on the ground floor and a new river-facing café.

Refurbishment and alterations will be carried out on the current café area transforming it into a permanent ground-floor exhibition space.

Plans for a new south-east opening and balcony are also in the works.

Planning officers have now given the bid the green light under delegated powers.

One letter of representation in support of the application was lodged from Dundee Civic Trust, who hoped the new improvements would tempt more tourism.

They said: “It is essential that buildings such as these are kept up to date, extended, improved, and made more interesting and worthwhile to visitors from the city and to the city, in order to encourage them to visit more often.”
