The final rehearsals for Little Shop of Horrors performed by Dundee Schools Musical Theatre are underway.
Taking centre stage at the city’s Gardyne Theatre next week, a group of teenagers from schools across Dundee are ready to put on a show.
The musical Little Shop of Horrors, set in the 1960s, follows the life of a florist who has hatched a plan to grow his business, but all is not as it seems.
Audrey II, is a main character with a twist; a blood-thirsty plant who will stop at nothing in order to survive.
The cast are busy adding the finishing touches to their performance ahead of opening night on Wednesday August 16.
It will be a special moment for lead actor Ava Hogan, who was inspired to take up musical theatre after joining the group as a youngster and hopes to make it her career.
She said: “I’m going to be leaving soon to go to university and will be doing musical theatre, so I will be doing more shows and stuff like that into the future, because I really enjoy it.
“Obviously, I kind of want to make it big – maybe in London – but I need to just keep on dreaming and see how I get on.”
The Dundee Schools Musical Theatre group aims to give local children the opportunity to access the arts.
Musical director Kris Mordent said: “Not every school across the two authorities have drama in their school – it’s an out for young people.
“It’s not something that they are introduced to on a daily basis but it gives them an opportunity to explore different thoughts, feelings, some stories that they might be involved in within their own context.
“It’s just another way to explore different avenues on how to solves their issues – but not only that, they are also building relationships.”
The show is being put on by S5 and S6 pupils from schools across Dundee and Angus.
Erere Digba, the voice of Audrey II, added: “My brothers and sisters joined DSMT over the past few years and I wanted to try it out.
“I’ve found that it’s really fun and it’s built my confidence as well which has helped along the way.”
