A historic Dundee shop, which has been part of the city for more than 160 years, has closed its doors for the final time.
JA Braithwaite, a specialist in fine teas and coffees which opened in 1868, closed permanently over the Easter weekend.
A sign left on the shop window explained that the owners have decided to retire.
“We would like to thank all our valued customers of the last 158 years”, the sign read.
“We have made the decision to retire and therefore will not be reopening after our Easter break.”
A message left on the business’s answering machine thanked customers for their support.
“We are closed for the Easter break, and we are deciding we are retiring, so we will be unable to post out any more tea or coffee orders”, it said.
“We thank our lovely customers over the years. On the whole – thank you very much!”
JA Braithwaite was established in Dundee’s City Square back in 1868, before later relocating to Castle Street in 1932.
The shop used traditional weighing scales to measure 30 types of coffee and more than 100 types of tea.
It was founded in the Victorian era by James Steele, before eventually being taken over by fourth-generation owner Allan Braithwaite.
