Equinor submits updated Rosebank oil field emissions assessment

A court ruled earlier this year consent granted to the development was unlawful as it did not take into account emissions created when oil and gas is burnt.

The oil giant Equinor has submitted an updated emissions assessment of the proposed Rosebank oil field off Shetland.

Earlier this year, a court ruled the consent granted to the development, along with the Jackdaw gas field, was unlawful, as it didn’t take into account the emissions created when the oil and gas are burnt.

The Norwegian company says it has resubmitted the assessment and says it remains fully committed to the project.

A Equinor spokesperson said: “We have submitted our response to the regulator OPRED for the request for further information on Rosebank, which includes the assessment of ‘Scope 3’ emissions associated with the project.

“We remain fully committed to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to advance the Rosebank project.

“Rosebank is an important contributor to the UK’s energy security. It is a vital project for the UK economy and is already bringing benefits in terms of local investment and job creation.”
