Explosion at business park as warehouses evacuated following fire

Riverview Business Park in Perth is closed and warehouses near Friarton House have been evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency services are on the scene after reports of an explosion at a business park in Perth.

Police say Friarton Road is closed at Cromlix Road and Shore Road following a fire at a business unit, with emergency services alerted around 10.50am on Friday.

Riverview Business Park is also closed and warehouses near Friarton House have been evacuated as a precaution.

Locals reported hearing sounds of an explosion at the site near Perth Harbour.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says they were called out at 10.47am, and sent six appliances to the scene.

Perth and Kinross Council has advised people to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Friarton Road in Perth is closed at Cromlix Road and Shore Road following a fire at a business unit reported to police around 10.50am on Friday, January 23, 2026.

“Riverview Business Park is also closed and warehouses near Friarton House have been evacuated as a precaution.

“The public are advised to avoid the area.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.47am on Friday, January 23, to reports of an explosion at Riverview Business Park, Friarton Road, Perth.

“At its height, Operations Control mobilised six appliances and a number of specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a commercial property.

“Three appliances and specialist resources remain at the scene.”
