Fire crews rushed to a street near the historic Arbroath Abbey on Sunday to reports of a blaze at a flat.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS) were dispatched to West Abbey Street in the town at 3pm.
Police remain in attendance and have blocked off the road at both ends of the street.
An SFRS spokesperson said earlier this afternoon: “We are attending a dwelling fire in Arbroath in West Abbey Street.
“The call came in at 3pm and we have three appliances there at the moment.
“There is no reports of casualties.”
