Firefighters in five-hour battle with building blaze

Eight fire engines, an aerial rescue appliance and specialist resources have all been in attendance at the blaze on Saturday morning.

Firefighters have been tackling a large building fire in Alyth near Blairgowrie.

Eight fire engines, an aerial rescue appliance and specialist resources have all been in attendance at the blaze within a building on Airlie Street.

The incident, which is affecting domestic and commercial properties, was reported to the Scottish Fire and Rescue service at around 4.30am on Saturday.

It is not known if anyone was injured in the blaze.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We were alerted at 4.29am on Saturday, February 22 to reports of a building fire at Airlie Street in Blairgowrie.

“Eight fire appliances, an aerial rescue appliance and specialist resource have been mobilised to the scene, and crews are currently tackling a well-developed fire affecting commercial and domestic properties.”
