Five men have been charged after £3.5m worth of drugs were seized in Aberdeenshire following one of the largest ever busts in the region.

Police officers carried out the raid in the High Street area of Fraserburgh on Friday.

Significant quantities of class A and B substances, including ecstasy, amphetamine and mephedrone, were discovered at the address.

Two men, aged 26 and 30, were charged in connection with the recovery and were due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday.

A further two men, aged 23 and 35, were charged on Tuesday and were due to appear at court on Wednesday.

Officers charged a fifth man, aged 26, on Wednesday and he is due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Detective Inspector John Pirie said: “This is one of the largest drugs recoveries in the North East area and it will have a huge impact on the illegal supply chain in Scotland.

“This work underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“Taking drugs off the street is a priority for Police Scotland. They cause misery in our communities, and the public has a vital role in helping us to trace those involved in the supply of illegal substances.”

Those with information are urged to contact officers via 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
