Flights from Dundee to London Heathrow are to end in September.
Loganair said it follows a review of the public service obligation (PSO) route which receives funding from Dundee City Council, as well as the UK and Scottish governments.
Currently, the airline operates two flights a day on weekdays, and one on a Sunday.
Unite the union, which represents staff at the airport, says the decision has created uncertainty for more than 30 workers, from air traffic controllers to firefighters, security staff and baggage handlers.
The airline says it is committed to Dundee Airport and is looking at alternative London airport options.
It’s understood flights from Dundee to Orkney, which is also a PSO route, will be unaffected.
A Loganair spokesperson said: “Loganair continues to review our network and the long-term viability of all routes.
“We can confirm we have given notice to Dundee City Council and all other interested parties in relation to the Dundee–London Heathrow PSO (DND–LHR, Public Service Obligation) service, and it is our intention to withdraw from this route later this year following a review of the operation.
“We remain committed to our Dundee base and its ongoing operation, which includes reviewing alternative London airport options. Our teams within the Dundee base have been kept proactively informed throughout this process, and we remain fully committed to both our colleagues and the communities we serve. We will share appropriate information in due course.”
Dougie Orchardson, regional organiser with Unite said: “It’s going to affect businesses in Dundee as well. People fly down to London and come up from London and so it will affect tourism as well because people like flying into Dundee, it’s a lot easier.
“I would hope Loganair get round the table with the Scottish Government, Dundee City Council and Westminster government to continue this service. It’s a vital service for Dundee and businesses in Dundee.”
A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: “We have received notification from Loganair. The council is in discussions with the airline, as well as other partners supplying funding to the Public Service Obligation for the route between Dundee and London. The service will operate as normal until September 18.”
