The former Nosheen Tandoori restaurant in Ellon town centre will be brought back to life and converted into a new Domino’s pizza takeaway.

The popular Indian restaurant on Bridge Street was in business for 30 years before it closed in 2023.

In a social post confirming the closure, the venue owners stated that its doors would only be shut temporarily and it would “reopen soon as a takeaway”.

But that plan never came to fruition and the premises has remained empty since.

The building was later put on the market for £300,000.

However, new planning documents have revealed that global pizza chain Domino’s will be moving in and opening up shop.

A proposal to turn the former restaurant into a hot food takeaway was given the go-ahead by Aberdeenshire Council planners in November.

They believed the change of use was “appropriate” and wouldn’t have a negative impact on the surrounding area.

But while the plan was approved, it wasn’t known who the new operator would be or what would be served – until now.

A new planning application for signage outside the building show that the popular pizza chain will be taking over.

The documents show that the Nosheen Tandoori signs will be taken down and replaced with a grey LED illuminated Domino’s branded one.

Meanwhile, a small lit Domino’s logo sign will be added too.

The plans also reveal that a new door to the building will be installed.

News of the new takeaway comes just weeks after the closure of Ellon pizzeria The Gaff.

Business owner Mike Gaffney closed its doors for the final time on March 22 to enable him to spend more time with his family.

And Domino’s might not be the only big name heading to the Aberdeenshire town in the near future.

Seattle-based coffee giants Starbucks recently unveiled its hopes to build and open a new drive-thru cafe on Balmacassie Brae.

The site, found across from Ellon’s Tesco superstore, was previously earmarked for development as a McDonald’s restaurant.

But after a battle with council planners, the fast food firm pulled the plug on the plan and the site was placed on the market.
