A former scaffolding business boss has been jailed for eight years after subjecting women to violence and rape during abuse spanning more than a decade.

Cameron McGregor began committing crimes against women in 2008 when he was still a teenager and continued until 2022, with the offending committed in Dundee and Newport on Tay, in Fife.

The 34-year-old from Dundee had denied a series of charges during an earlier trial but was convicted of six offences, involving five victims.

During attacks on women, McGregor pushed, punched and struck victims. Others were subjected to repeated rapes.

Defence solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin told the court: “He maintains his denial of the offences.”

Mr Gilmartin said that McGregor served in the Army before being medically discharged, but went on to run a business. He said: ” He was self-employed and running a scaffolding business.”

“Prior to his remand, he had ten employees, all of whom have now been made redundant. He has lost his business. He feels responsible for those people who have been made redundant,” he told the court.

A judge told McGregor at the High Court in Edinburgh: “You have been convicted of offences of violence against three women and rape of two women.”

Lord Ericht said he had considered victim impact statements prepared in the case and noted that a background report prepared on McGregor assessed him as a moderate risk for re-offending.

McGregor was told that he will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely following his sentencing. The judge made non harassment orders prohibiting him from contacting or attempting to contact the victims.

Detective Inspector Gordon Patullo said: “McGregor is an abusive individual who subjected his victims to years of horrific offending, and he will now face the consequences of his actions.

“Tackling this type of offending remains a priority for Police Scotland, and I would encourage anyone who has experienced abuse to report it to Police Scotland.

“Every report is taken seriously and will be fully investigated, with support available from partner agencies, including Rape Crisis Scotland and Scottish Women’s Aid.”
