Thousands of pounds worth fuel which was stolen from an Aberdeenshire farm has prompted police to issue a warning to North East farmers to “be vigilant”.
During the evening of Saturday, August 20, 5000 litres of kerosene, also known as paraffin, worth £4,000 was stolen from a farm near Marykirk in Aberdeenshire.
Police have warned that thieves take “full advantage” at this time of the year, during an extremely busy period for farmers across the country.
North East crime reduction officer, Constable Urquhart said: “This is a very busy time of year for farmers.
“Criminals will take full advantage of fuel tanks being full, high prices and farmers away from farms for long periods of time.”
The UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association recommend that to protect fuel tanks from theft people should ensure fuel gauges are installed correctly, consider installing CCTV, and monitor fuel tanks on a regular basis.
Anyone with information regarding the theft is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1869 of August 22, 2022.
