Huge fire erupts near Pittodrie football stadium 

Fire crews continue to fight the blaze which broke out on Merkland Road in Aberdeen on Wednesday.

A huge fire has broken out in a garage near Pittodrie football stadium in Aberdeen.

Emergency services services were called to Merkland Road East at around 8am on Wednesday morning.

Pictures from the scene show plumes of smoke filling the skyline with firefighters at the scene.

There are no reports of any casualties.

Police have closed Merkland Road East, Ardarroch Road and Pittodrie Street. The public has been urged to avoid the area at this time and nearby properties have been evacuated.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.02am on Wednesday, January 22 to reports of a building fire at Merkland Road East, Aberdeen.

“Operations Control initially mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters called for a further five appliances to support them.

Firefighters remain on scene working hard to extinguish a fire affecting a car garage.  There are no reports of any casualties.

“Police Scotland are evacuating nearby properties”.
