Aberdeen Airport suspended all incoming and outgoing flights on Monday to carry out “unscheduled” maintenance.
The airport apologised on social media for any “inconvenience” as flights were called off.
“We can confirm we are currently carrying out some unscheduled maintenance work and have had to temporarily suspend operations,” Aberdeen International Airport said in a statement on Monday morning.
“We aim to have this completed as quickly as possible with minimum disruption, however, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Passengers are being provided with refreshment vouchers and we will provide a further update as soon as the work is complete.
“Passengers are advised to contact their airline for specific flight information.”
Flights from Dublin, Bristol and London were among those cancelled without any sign of rescheduling.
One traveller, flying from Dublin to Aberdeen told STV News: “Abandoned passengers, including children, currently waiting in Dublin airport, over three hours after cancelled 12:20 flight to Aberdeen today.
“We don’t know what is going on as nobody from Loganair is talking to us or helping us.”
Another passenger dubbed the suspension of service a “fiasco”, stating: “Many flights cancelled. Hundreds stranded.”
Loganair said in a statement on social media: “We are working on contingencies for today’s schedule to minimise disruption as far as we possibly can. However, unfortunately, some disruption is likely.”
On Monday afternoon, Aberdeen International Airport provided an update on social media, stating that repair works had now concluded.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the airport said: “The unscheduled maintenance from this morning has now been completed and we have resumed full operations.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and passengers are advised to contact their airline for specific flight information.”
