A manhunt has been launched after an axe-wielding robber made off with money, alcohol and tobacco from an Angus shop.
The armed robbery happened at a store on Ponderlaw Street, Arbroath, at around 6am on Saturday.
No-one was hurt during the incident, however the man threatened a member of staff with the axe before leaving on foot with the stolen goods.
The suspect is believed to be in his 30s and had a medium build.
At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up, black jeans, a burgundy tammy, and red trainers that had a white sole.
He was also wearing a black face-mask and was carrying a black rucksack over his shoulders.
Detective constable Paul Hardie, from Dundee CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the shop assistant involved who thankfully was not injured during the incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man responsible and I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at this time and who may have seen this man to get in touch with us as soon as they can.”
