A hunt has been launched to trace a man and woman seen metal detecting on the grounds of Banff Castle.
Officers said the unauthorised metal detecting occurred between 10.30am and 11am between October 21 and 28.
Police said a man and woman were seen in the area, and ground was found to have been disturbed.
The force is urging anyone with information to come forward.
Metal detecting at a scheduled monument or protected place without consent is a criminal offence and can incur penalties of up to £50,000 and two years in prison.
Police constable Rastislav Zubaj said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible, and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything to get in touch.
“We are also asking people to check any relevant private CCTV to see if it may have captured information that could help with our enquiries.
“Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3967 of Monday, November 18, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
