As the return to normal life picks up pace, one group of keen sportspeople are aiming to slow things down.
Walking rugby players are back in action in Forfar, Angus, and for what the sport lacks in speed, it certainly makes up in passion.
This version of rugby sees tackling replaced by tapping and is most commonly enjoyed by older players looking to remain fit and active – with some clocking up 10,000 steps during sessions.
James Kylie, project leader at Strathmore Community Rugby Trust, says there’s no shortage of benefits – especially for those affected by lockdown.
“A lot of our participants have not been out the house in three months so they’ve been isolated,” he said.
“That’s obviously not good for anyone’s mentality, so just being able to get out is great.”
And for the players, the opportunity to imagine themselves steaming over the try line at Murrayfield is enough to keep them coming back for more.
Club member Bob Baldie said: “I was piling on the pounds so it’s great to get out in the fresh air, run about with pals that I used to play rugby with and have a laugh.
“It’s an absolutely brilliant community and you never stop laughing from the start of the day until the end of the day.”
