A man who allegedly defrauded a vulnerable woman from Aberdeen out of more than £200,000 has been charged.
Police Scotland confirmed that on Wednesday, May 3, a 26-year-old man was arrested at a property in Kent and charged in connection with a high-value cyber-enabled offence.
The fraud targeted the victim’s online finances, resulting in a sum in excess of £200,000 being stolen.
An investigation was carried out by officers from Police Scotland’s north east division’s cyber-enabled crime team, resulting in enforcement activity at a property in Kent on Wednesday, 3 May.
He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.
Detective sergeant David Williamson said: “Police Scotland is committed to tackling cyber-enabled organised criminality.
“If you, or anyone you know, has been the victim of cyber-enabled crime the circumstances can be reported to Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and the 26-year-old is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.
Kent Police has been contacted for comment.
