Kilts On, Taps Aff: Scots band release Euro 2020 anthem

Dundee band The Cundeez want to inspire the national team to 'better things'.

A Dundee band have created a new song to spur the Scotland team on to Euro 2020 glory.

National garb-wearing punk band The Cundeez have released Kilts On, Taps Aff to get the nation and the players in the winning party mood.

Frontman Gary Robertson explained the origins of the tune: “It goes back to the early days of The Cundeez, being on stage, sweat on our backs, so we just tapped the top off and that’s how the saying came about.”

The song was written and recorded over a couple of weeks before work began on a music video.

Now the band hope the nation will adopt it as a Euros anthem.

Mr Robertson said: “Hopefully the nation will get behind it when the troops take the field, and we’re hoping it will inspire the boys to better things.

“Twenty three years, it’s been a long, long wait. That save from Marshall against Serbia, we hit the roof, the whole country went mental.

“It’s going to go right off the Richter if we get into the knockout stages.”

Since 1998, Scotland have failed to qualify for ten consecutive tournaments, missing out on the Samba beats of Brazil, the vuvuzelas of South Africa and even the big party in France five years ago when all of the other home nations qualified for Euro 2016.

The Cundeez are hopeful that Kilts On, Taps Aff will be the battle song of the team, stirring up the players and supporters ahead of games.

It has competition from 70s disco track Yes Sir, I Can Boogie by Baccara which re-entered the charts after it was adopted as an anthem by Scotland’s victorious football team.

Mr Robertson said: “I love Baccara and Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, but really marching into battle with that when you’ve got Kilts On, Taps Aff, come on?

“Give us it. There’s no competition here.”
